Eat That Frog!
"If you have to eat two frogs, eat the biggest one first."
Core Philosophy
Hoping to finish all your tasks is unrealistic. We will never finish everything; there is never enough time. Therefore, we must focus on the most essential tasks. The rest of the low-priority tasks can wait or be delegated.
Visualize Success
See yourself where you want to be. This help you find people already there; ask them for advice or study their path to emulation.
The 7-Step Plan for Success
- Decide what you want: Balance life and career goals. Knowing what we want is the first step.
- Write it down: A goal not written down is just a wish. Writing makes it real.
- Set a Deadline: Break goals into milestones with specific deadlines to create urgency.
- Make a List: List every skill and task required to reach your milestone.
- Make a Plan: Organize the list into a roadmap. Prioritize high-impact tasks and blockers.
- Take Action: An average plan executed is better than a perfect strategy that never starts.
- Do something each day: Maintain momentum. Don't let procrastination set in as the TODO list grows.
Planning and Focus
Proper Prior Planning Prevents Poor Performance
Plan every Day, Week, Month, and Year.
- Master List: All items for the year.
- Monthly Plan: What needs to be done this month.
- Weekly Plan: Set aside 2 hours every Sunday.
- Daily Plan: Plan every night for the upcoming day.
Focus on Activities, Not Just Accomplishments
Busywork is not the same as meaningful work.
- 80/20 Rule: 80% of success comes from 20% of the most important tasks.
- Consequences: Consider the long-term impact of doing (or not doing) a task. Focus on core skills that give a strategic advantage.
Law of Forced Efficiency
"There is never enough time to do everything, but there is always sufficient time to focus on what is the most important thing."
Add an extra 20% buffer for errors and rework. Always ask:
- What are my highest-value activities?
- What is something only I can do that will make a real difference?
